A delightful layered dessert featuring custard, whipped cream, and mixed berries.

- 2 cups milk (whole milk preferred)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 large egg yolks
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon lemon zest
- 1/4 cup lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
- 1 cup strawberries (sliced)
- 1 cup blueberries
- 1 cup raspberries
- 1 cup heavy cream (chilled)
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon lemon zest (for topping)
- 1 cup mixed berries (for decoration)
Instructions
- In a saucepan, whisk together milk, sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
- Remove from heat and whisk in egg yolks, vanilla extract, lemon zest, and lemon juice until smooth.
- Transfer to a bowl, cover with plastic wrap directly on the surface, and refrigerate until cool.
- In a mixing bowl, beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
- In a large trifle dish or bowl, layer half of the custard, followed by half of the mixed berries, and half of the whipped cream.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining custard, berries, and whipped cream.
- Top with additional mixed berries and lemon zest for garnish.
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to allow flavors to meld.
- Serve chilled and enjoy!
