Description

A delightful layered dessert featuring custard, whipped cream, and mixed berries.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups milk (whole milk preferred)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1 cup strawberries (sliced)
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1 cup raspberries
  • 1 cup heavy cream (chilled)
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest (for topping)
  • 1 cup mixed berries (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, whisk together milk, sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
  2. Remove from heat and whisk in egg yolks, vanilla extract, lemon zest, and lemon juice until smooth.
  3. Transfer to a bowl, cover with plastic wrap directly on the surface, and refrigerate until cool.
  4. In a mixing bowl, beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  5. In a large trifle dish or bowl, layer half of the custard, followed by half of the mixed berries, and half of the whipped cream.
  6. Repeat the layers with the remaining custard, berries, and whipped cream.
  7. Top with additional mixed berries and lemon zest for garnish.
  8. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to allow flavors to meld.
  9. Serve chilled and enjoy!
