Description

A deliciously creamy and cheesy baked potato dish that is perfect as a side or a main course.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups thinly sliced Russet or Yukon Gold potatoes
  • 2 large yellow onions, sliced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 ½ cups shredded Gruyère cheese
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme (or to taste)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until golden brown, about 15-20 minutes.
  3. Stir in heavy cream and garlic; simmer for a few minutes.
  4. In the prepared baking dish, layer half of the potato slices. Pour half of the onion-cream mixture over them. Sprinkle with cheese.
  5. Repeat layers finishing with cheese on top.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 60 minutes.
  7. Remove foil and bake an additional 15-20 minutes until bubbly and golden.

Notes

  • For a variation, try adding cooked bacon or different types of cheese.
  • Let it sit for a few minutes before serving to set.
