Description

A delicious and easy recipe for crispy ham and cheese rollups, perfect for a snack or party appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices white sandwich bread
  • 8 slices ham
  • 8 slices cheese (such as mozzarella or cheddar)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste pepper
  • Optional: chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bread: Trim the crusts off the slices of bread. Use a rolling pin to flatten each slice of bread.

  2. Assemble the Rollups: Place a slice of ham and a slice of cheese on each piece of flattened bread. Roll up the bread tightly with the ham and cheese inside. Make sure the seam side is down.

  3. Coating: Place the flour in one shallow dish, beaten eggs in another, and breadcrumbs in a third. Season the flour and breadcrumbs with salt and pepper. Dip each roll first in the flour, then the beaten eggs, and finally in the breadcrumbs, ensuring each roll is well-coated.

  4. Cooking: Heat the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the rollups, seam side down, and cook until golden brown on all sides, about 3-4 minutes.

  5. Serving: Remove from skillet and drain on paper towels. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Ensure the ends of the rollups are sealed well to prevent cheese from leaking out during cooking.
  • If preferred, substitute whole grain bread for a healthier option.
  • Experiment with different types of cheese and additional fillings such as mustard or a slice of tomato for added flavor.
  • For an extra crispy texture, try double coating the rollups in breadcrumbs.
